Creating a magickal home is everything if you’re a spiritualist or witch.
Because, no matter how much time you regularly spend in your home, it’s always going to be that place that you come back to.
It’s the place that you use to rest and recharge, and likely the place where you carry out most, if not all, of your spiritual practices.
And why wouldn’t you want the place that you use to rest and recharge to feel like a sanctuary?!
Luckily there are several things you can do to create and maintain a magickal home.
Doing all of these things will ensure that the energy of your home is at optimal level for your spiritual and witchy practices, and ensure that your home feels like… home!
Plus, these really are easy changes to make and they can cost as much or as little as you’d like.
Give these 5 things a try and I promise you’ll notice a difference in the magick of your home!

5 ways to create a magickal home
1. Set up an altar
An altar is, in my opinion, a must have for every witch or spiritualist.
An altar is a surface (typically a table of some kind) that you use for worship, prayer or witchcraft.
The key is to decorate the surface with functional items that you use regularly in your practice.
Therefore, your altar will be unique to you and you can really experiment with making it your own!
Here are some items that I have on my altar:
- My tarot decks
- Crystals
- Candles
- Incense holder
- My journal
That’s because I currently use all of these things every day in my own practices, but what I have on my altar sometimes changes as my own personal practice evolves.
Some other items that you might like to place on your altar include:
- Reference books
- Ritual items
- A pendulum
- Herbs
- Your book of shadows or grimoire
- Statues/figurines of deities
- Spell jars
Again, I want to stress that what you have on your altar should be unique to you!
Don’t feel like you have to make your altar a certain way because that’s how other witches or spiritualists have theirs.
The whole point is to use this altar to make the energy of your home magickal for you - your craft is your own.

2. Purchase some magick home decor
Purchasing home decor may just be one of my favorite things to do… it’s a problem.
I just feel like the right home decor can really transform your space into a sanctuary and make it feel magickal.
Magick home decor doesn’t only look beautiful, but certain items can also serve as prompts or reminders of your craft.
The symbolism can transform the energy of your space and make it feel more magickal to you.

3. Bring nature into your home
An easy tip for making your home feel more like a sanctuary is to bring more nature into it.
This is particularly important for earth signs (that’s Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn).
The easiest way to do this is of course to get some houseplants!
They not only look beautiful in the home but they also have the benefit of improving air quality and the energy of your space.
Don’t panic if you feel like you’re not responsible enough to look after plants though (I frequently kill mine… whoops).
There are plenty of options that are low maintenance and easy to care for, such as cacti, succulents, aloe vera and spider plants to name a few.
Also, if caring for plants really isn’t your thing then there are other ways to bring nature into your home and make it feel more magickal.
A great way to do this is to decorate with dried flowers. These are a beautiful touch and they don’t require caring for!
4. Keep your home tidy
Keeping your home tidy is essential for maintaining a sense of magick and making sure that the energy in your space doesn’t get stagnant.
It might sound obvious, but if your space is filled with clutter then you’re going to feel cluttered too!
The easiest way to keep your home tidy is to tidy up as you go, but I know that this isn’t realistic for everyone.
If you struggle to stay tidy like I do, the best advice I can give is to dedicate a day each week to tidy your space. I like to set some time aside on a Sunday to do this.
This works perfectly for me because I am somebody who just can’t stay on top of daily tidying.
But doing it once a week ensures that things don’t get toooo untidy before they get a refresh!
5. Cleanse your space
Cleansing your space is equally as important as tidying it.
Whenever you tidy, try to use that as an opportunity to do some cleaning too!
You might also want to do a “spring cleaning ritual” where once a year when you really take the time to do a deep clean and clear out all the things that no longer serve you.
Doing this ritual will ensure that the energy of your home isn’t stagnant and will be like hitting reset for you!
Follow all of these steps and you should be able to create a magickal home that feels special to you and your own personal practice.
Try to keep on top of maintaining your home when you can and let your space evolve as your practice and craft does so!
