How to Find Your Divine Purpose (and Fulfil It)

Sharing is caring!

Knowing your divine purpose can be the difference between living a fulfilled life and living a life with little to no direction - provided that you’re actually following your purpose of course.

When we know our divine purpose, it can guide us each day so that we know exactly what actions we have to take in order to feel most fulfilled and aligned.

It can allow us to live our lives more authentically and intentionally.

But I want to give reassurance that it’s not essential. I know that sounds paradoxical considering you’ve come to a post all about how to find your divine purpose…

But nonetheless I think it’s important that you know you don’t have to know your purpose in order to live a fulfilling life.

Think of it like a bonus!

If you don’t know your divine purpose, don’t sweat it. You can still go with the flow and do what feels right for you at every given moment.

But if you want that bonus of knowing your divine purpose so you can feel even more guided each day - you’ve come to the right place.

What is a divine purpose?

Your divine purpose is basically your reason for being here.

Whether or not you believe in a God, the power of the Universe, or you just take comfort in believing that your life has meaning, your purpose is your reason for being on this earth.

It supports the belief that none of us are here due to chance - we all have a part to play and a mission to fulfil while we are here.

You might also hear a divine purpose referred to as your life purpose, your soul purpose, your higher purpose, your soul mission, or a whole other number of things… they’re one in the same and you can use these terms interchangeably.

It’s worth noting that your life purpose will usually be something that serves others or the Universe in some way. It’s a way to use your own skills for good.

What is my divine purpose?

I don’t necessarily believe that anybody else can tell you your life purpose - it is up to you to discover it and to follow it.

Psychics and other spiritual readers might be able to give you an idea or point you in the right direction, but I wouldn’t rely on this information to be your sole guide.

When it comes down to it, only you know what feels right.

With that being said, here are some tips that can help you to find your divine purpose.

How to find your divine purpose

1. Exercise your intuition

When we say “only you know what feels right”, it’s important to recognise that this is very much dependent on your intuition.

If your intuition is weak then you’re more likely to go after things that aren’t in alignment, since you haven’t exercised that ‘muscle’ which tells you something doesn’t quite feel right.

I like referring to intuition as a muscle because it’s similar in the sense that it can be trained and developed.

Just because you don’t have a strong intuition right now, that doesn’t mean you’re destined to have weak intuition forever.

With the right exercises you can learn to develop your intuition.

Then, with a stronger intuition you will be able to instinctively know what does and doesn’t feel right. This can help guide you to your divine purpose.

Consistently work with the following practices to strengthen your intuition:

2. Look at your talents

You can often find clues to your divine life purpose and soul mission by looking at what you’re naturally good at.

If something comes to you with complete ease, then there’s a good chance that that’s what you were put on this earth to do.

dont waste your talent

Look at those areas of your life that feel easy or effortless. Where do you feel like ‘a natural’?

Let’s look at some examples:

  • If you’re naturally funny and confident, your purpose might be to entertain others and bring them joy

  • If you’re naturally a good listener and you make people feel supported, your purpose might be to be a therapist or healer

  • If you’re naturally talented at drawing/painting/creating, your purpose might be to create art that inspires others

  • If you’re naturally good at writing, your purpose might be to spread knowledge through your words

Knowing your talents can be a good starting point, but if your talents don’t feel like they’re true to your higher purpose that’s okay too.

You might have many talents and some may simply be a source of joy to you personally.

For example, you might be a naturally talented singer but your purpose may not be to perform.

This is where your intuition comes in, to be able to decipher which talents are and aren’t a sign of your divine purpose.

3. Journal questions

Journal questions can be a helpful tool to dive deeper into your subconscious to find clues to your divine purpose.

Sometimes it can be difficult to see ourselves and our talents clearly, but writing prompts can help us to uncover these parts of ourselves.

Try these four questions and write freely to see what comes up:

1. What lights my fire?

2. Why do I enjoy doing it?

3. What would I do more of if nobody else was judging?

4. What did I love doing as a child?

The last two questions are particularly helpful at uncovering the things that truly bring our souls joy, but may have got lost due to the pressures of society.

If these questions uncover things that you may think point to your higher purpose, you’ll likely need to do some deeper work in order to fulfil your purpose.

4. Ask your loved ones

I know I said that only you can find your divine purpose, and that point still stands - however, asking your loved ones what they think you’re good at or what they associate you with can be helpful at uncovering skills and talents that you may have overlooked.

We’re not talking about what others think you should do with your life i.e. become a doctor (even though you have no interest in it yourself).

The purpose of this is to see how those close to you truly see you, when you might not be able to see yourself.

For example, your loved ones might be able to tell you that they see you as a natural speaker, but because you’re hard on yourself you may not have thought about this before.

Think of someone you truly trust and who you think knows you better than anyone else and see what they say - you might be surprised!

5. Expand your knowledge

If none of the previous steps have helped you uncover your divine purpose, it’s likely that it might not have entered your life yet.

Remember, we’re not necessarily born knowing our life purpose - it’s a journey to finding and discovering it, before then setting out to fulfil it.

One person whose purpose it is to be an entertainer may discover they’re talented at comedy at age 10, whereas another person with a similar purpose may not discover their talent until they’re 40.

Each of our purposes and our journeys to finding them is unique - so don’t stress, and trust the journey!

This is why it’s important to continue trying and exploring new things, to find what feels most aligned.

We may think something is our divine purpose before realising its not aligned after all, and that’s okay! This isn’t wasted time, it’s simply a part of your journey to finding your true purpose.

Expand your knowledge with reading and life experiences, because there are so many parts of life that could light up your soul!

Fulfilling divine purpose

Knowing your divine purpose is one thing, but fulfilling it is another.

Whether we fulfil this mission or not is entirely up to us, and is dependent on the actions that we take throughout our lives.

But remember, it’s a journey - it’s okay to fall off the path sometimes and we’re not always going to be doing things that are aligned with our purpose.

As long as our overarching intention is to do what feels aligned then we are going to be able to live fulfilling lives.

1. Keep your purpose in mind every day

Keeping your purpose in mind every single day is the basis for fulfilling it.

If we are constantly asking ourselves “is *this action* aligned with my purpose?” then we are better able to engage in the habits that are aligned and say no to the habits that are holding us back.

Remember to exercise your intuition so that answering this question can become effortless.

2. Set clear boundaries

Once you get into the habit of asking yourself whether or not habits are aligned, you need to set clear boundaries with yourself and others in your life.

It’s all good knowing that gossiping isn’t aligned with your purpose of being a therapist, but unless you enforce with yourself and others that gossiping isn’t something you engage in, you’ll be living out of alignment.

Setting boundaries is a process in itself, and it can take time to master the art of saying “yes” and “no” to things that you’ve habitually engaged in for some time.

But like your intuition, you can develop this skill. The result will be living a life that feels much more aligned and fulfilling.

3. Work on your limiting beliefs

Limiting beliefs hold you back from living to your full potential.

It’s therefore essential to uncover any limiting beliefs you might have and to actively work on reframing them to set yourself free!

Journaling is one of the best ways to do this, but if you feel like your beliefs are deep set and causing you distress, therapy is probably the way to go.
